The palmerston forts society acts as a forum for research on the victorian fortifications of the portsmouth area and the u.K. A journal is published each year. The society arranges work parties and educational programmes of lectures, talks and visits to forts. A section of the society is the portsdown artillery volunteers who regularly perform authentic victorian gun drills and firings.
